This is Month 12 of the Magic City Fabric Block of the Month series. You are welcome to take this class on its own or as part of the full BOM.
These finishing sessions are designed to help you turn your Block of the Month blocks into completed projects. Attendance in the BOM is not required.

This is a guided, flexible work session focused on finishing. You will receive help with planning, layout, construction, and next steps based on your chosen project.

Block of the Month FAQs
What is the Magic City Fabric Block of the Month?
This is a 9 block sampler and skill building series designed for beginner to intermediate sewists. Each instructional month focuses on creating one 10 inch finished quilt block using a cohesive three color palette and a neutral background.
Blocks are designed to stand alone or work together. A quilt is optional.
How many blocks are included?
There are 9 instructional block months.
The series also includes intentional breaks in June, July, and December for finishing, catch up time, and optional finishing focused classes. No new blocks are introduced during those months.
Do I have to make a quilt?
No. A quilt is optional.
Blocks can be used for:
- Pillows
- Tote bags or project bags
- Table runners or placemats
- Wall hangings or framed blocks
- Mini quilts or sampler quilts
Finishing classes are offered to support multiple end uses.
Do I have to attend every month?
No. You may join month by month or attend only the months that interest you.
What skill level is this series for?
This series is beginner to intermediate.
You should be comfortable:
- Using a sewing machine
- Sewing a straight seam
- Using a rotary cutter and ruler
No prior quilting experience is required.
What size are the blocks?
All blocks finish at 10 inches.
What techniques will be taught?
Techniques vary by month and may include:
- Accurate cutting and piecing
- Half square triangles
- Strip piecing
- Flying geese
- Square in a square blocks
- Star construction
- Intro to foundation paper piecing
- Pressing and trimming for clean results
Skills build gradually over the series.
Is fabric included in the class fee?
No. Fabric is not included in the class fee.
You may:
- Bring fabric from your own stash
- Purchase an optional monthly fabric kit from Magic City Fabric
Are fabric kits required?
No. Fabric kits are optional.
You are welcome to bring your own fabric
What supplies do I need to bring?
You will need:
- A sewing machine in good working order
- Basic sewing supplies such as scissors, pins, seam ripper
- Rotary cutter and ruler
- Thread
- Fabric for the block if not purchasing a kit
Cutting mats and irons will be available in the classroom.
Will I finish my block during class?
Most students will complete the majority of the block during class. Some light finishing at home may be required depending on pace and experience level.
You will leave with clear next steps.
What happens during the June, July, and December breaks?
No new blocks are taught during these months.
Magic City Fabric will offer optional:
- Finishing focused classes
- Open sew sessions
- Catch up help
Participation is optional.
What if I miss a class?
If you are registered for a block month and miss the class, you will still receive the pattern for that block. Make up classes are not guaranteed and at this time we cannot provide refunds.
Can I take a finishing class if I did not do the BOM?
Yes. Finishing classes are open to anyone unless otherwise noted.
Can I use blocks from other projects in finishing classes?
Yes. Finishing sessions are flexible and supportive. You are welcome to bring other blocks or projects for guidance if space allows.
Are classes refundable?
Class registrations follow Magic City Fabric’s standard class policy. Please review the class policy page for details before registering.
How many students are in each class?
Class sizes are intentionally kept small to allow for hands on instruction and support. Seats are limited to 5 per class.
Is this series right for me if I am brand new?
If you have never used a sewing machine before, we recommend taking an intro sewing class first. If you are comfortable sewing a straight seam, this series is appropriate.
